Teaching Philosophy
My core underlying approach to teaching is to ensure that students develop skills and knowledge that are relevant and widely applicable, both in and outside of the classroom. As such, my primary aims as an instructor are to build critical thinking skills that are informed by both empirical and theoretical knowledge; to engender empathy into students' interactions and skills, and, arguably most importantly; to help students prepare for school and for life.
Teaching Experience
I have taught courses on sport governance, sport ethics, and public health at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Maryland and Florida State University. I also regularly guest lecture in university courses in a range of departments (e.g., Philosophy; Kinesiology; Sport Management; Recreation, Sport & Tourism; Sociology) across the U.S. and internationally. In my current position at Florida State University, I regularly observe and provide formative feedback to graduate students on their pedagogy, teaching style, and classroom preparation. I take my responsibility as an educator very seriously and am passionate about ensuring that the next generation of sports practitioners, sport managers, and sport organization leaders are knowledgeable, empathetic, and effective.
I am currently accepting graduate students (Masters and PhD) students to advise and work with. I am also available to serve as an outside thesis/dissertation committee member and am available for interviews for student research, capstone projects, or media projects.
